HOW RUSTY
GOT HERE

The true (mostly true) (definitely true) story of a battle unicorn and the great Area 51 breakout that ended in neon.

SOMEWHERE UNDER THE DESERT

Deep beneath a stretch of Nevada nobody officially admits exists, a containment log flagged "SUBJECT UNACCOUNTED FOR" in the middle of the night. Test Subject R-01, an armor-plated battle unicorn nobody had bothered to name yet, had just put his horn clean through six inches of reinforced steel, and he wasn't sticking around to explain himself.

By the time the alarms caught up, he was already gone.

OVER THE FENCE, UNDER THE STARS

He didn't so much run as demolish anything standing between himself and the horizon. A supply shed took the brunt of it first. Then came the chain-link fence, which didn't stand a chance.

Fourteen hundred pounds of very determined, very armored unicorn cleared it in a single jump without breaking stride. By the time the base lights were just a dim orange smear behind him, somebody back at the hangar had already started calling him Rusty on the incident report. It stuck.

THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL HIGHWAY

He followed State Route 375 north, keeping to the shoulder and ducking into the brush whenever headlights swept the road. Nevada's Extraterrestrial Highway wasn't built for hoofprints, but nobody stopped him to ask questions.

Sunrise came and went. So did the next one. Something about the open road just fit.

FOUND IN RACHEL

Dusty and running low on whatever it is that powers a battle unicorn, he wandered into Rachel, Nevada, close enough to see the lights of the famous Little A'Le'Inn down the road. Population: not many. Strange arrivals: frequent. Nobody there blinked twice at an armor-plated unicorn parked out front.

Turns out if anywhere on Earth was going to shrug and let him catch his breath, it was here.

FINDING LIGHT DESIGN LV

Rachel was a good rest stop, but the desert wasn't done with him yet. He kept heading toward the glow on the horizon, Las Vegas, and that's where he crossed paths with Jon Hofer at Light Design LV, a shop where laser engravers, 3D printers, and cases of precious metal all shared the same workbench.

Rusty liked the metal. Jon liked that he didn't set off the smoke detectors, much. These days Rusty stands guard out front and helps run the shows, the drops, and the wholesale line straight from High Desert Mint.
